Profile: Ruth Mary Calamba is a seasoned risk management executive with over 20 years of international experience across leading financial institutions. She currently heads the Operational Risk Management function at Union Bank of the Philippines, a role she has held for the past two years. Before joining UnionBank, Ruth held senior roles at Deloitte, National Australia Bank, and HSBC. At HSBC, she served as the Regional Head of Operational and Resilience Risk for Asia Pacific, overseeing risk management across 11 international markets. Her leadership was pivotal in executing complex rationalization initiatives, implementing new risk taxonomies, and representing operational risk in senior governance forums. At UnionBank, Ruth focuses on driving effective risk management practices by embedding High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles and advancing these capabilities across the bank’s rapidly evolving digital landscape. She maintains a thoughtful balance between strategic business imperatives and practical risk execution, fostering adaptive frameworks that promote resilience and sound governance. Outside of work, Ruth enjoys a balanced life, raising her children and spending quality time with family.
